This week I want to help make sure you know what to look for when hiring a painter. I am sure most of us are not aware of the fact that the state of New Mexico cancelled licensing for painting contractors. Yes this is not a typo. The New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department decided to eliminate licensing for painting contractors. (Maybe they decided they are making to much money) They have claimed "complaints against these trades as problematic because there is no code standard to which the work performed can be held. As such, licensing the contractors in these trades does not promote public welfare, does not provide protection of life or property." Wait a minute, licensing does help with protection of property. It helps to ensure that the contractor has insurance, as well as paying there fair share of taxes.
Painting was classified as GS-18, with the regulation and licensing department. This is the website that tells what they have decided to declassify www.rld.state.nm.us/constuction. We are wanting to inform people about this so that they will have knowledge. If a person hires someone because they are cheap, do they have insurance? Or will they be suing the home owners insurance if something happens. How is the home owners property protected? What if they get over spray on cars, break something, or even worse, they get hurt? Is the homeowner going to have to go through their insurance carrier and possibly get their insurance increased, or possibly be sued? When you hire someone to do work at your home, please make sure they are insured. This protects you as the home owner. It is not worth saving a dollar if it ends up costing you down the road, if they are not carrying insurance. How do you make sure they will not take off with your money? Most painting companies will require some type of deposit. If they are a real painting company then that deposit is insured with the companies insurance. P.S. if someone says they have a New Mexico license to paint, beware because it is not possible anymore. As of April 1st all have expired.

We just finished this home. I believe it is Jose on the ladder. I love the green in it. If you remember our blog a few weeks ago, we talked about colors and moods. We mentioned Pantone named Greenery their color of the year. Green has a grounding effect that connects you to outdoors. Green can have a soothing effect in softer tones. Myself being from Ca. likes this color because it stands out a little. I enjoy color, and it seems most outside homes are Browns or Tans. I understand it is to go with the desert backgrounds here but, I want to see a scorpion or centipede. It seems they blend in with the tans and browns that are traditional to this area. We used a Sherwin Williams paint on this home. The color is SW6185 Escape Gray which has Black, Green and Raw Umber. This person wants the paint to last so they chose an Elastomeric paint. Elastomeric stretches so it prevents cracks from reappearing in these desert temperatures. If you want your home to stand out a bit with some color, we can help you with that. Just give us a call 505-385-6173. We can help you pick which brand is Best for you @SherwinWilliams, @DunnEdwards, @Behr, @ScuffMaster, @BenjaminMoore, @PPG or any brand you wish for. #BestPaintingAbq, #OurNameSaysItAll ![]() This week I thought I would show one of our estimators art work. His talent just amazes me. I love how he caught the reflection in this chrome pitcher. I have shared a few of his pieces on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn as well as Instagram so now I thought I should let people visiting our site see some.
It is just boggling to think someone with so much talent, is out giving quotes to paint instead of showing his work in gallery's. I want to let people know if they see something they want, they can purchase a print or original by calling the office. Sure would love to hear some feed back on this talent. This is part 2 of last weeks post.
Last week we shared yellow and green and how they can make you feel. Now we will move on to the last three colors. Blue is considered calming and a serene color. Blue is considered to be beneficial to the mind and body, even in bolder forms. Dulux which is a maker of paints, named their blue shade Denim Drift the color of the year for them. Pantone is another manufacturer of paint, they named an airy shade of blue as as the official color of optimism. "Blue symbolizes loyalty and trust, Those who choose blue are considered confident and dependable," says Loma. "People have been found to be more productive in a blue room because they are calm and focused. Blue tones work Best in bathrooms, studies, and bedrooms. It's also an ideal color for small rooms." Tip: Use blue with warm undertones to keep a cold feeling from room. "Pink is the choice of a loving, kind and generous individual," explains Loma. Pale pink reflects warmth and sensitivity. It is also the color of romance and sensitivity,""Meanwhile bright pink means an optimistic outlook. It is considered to be fun, inspirational and energetic. Pink is great for living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms." Tip: Pink can make the space feel small. It is Best to use pink in rooms with large windows or spaces that have a lot of light. The last color would be red. Red is considered to be a bold and confident color. Studies have shown that red raises the heart rate and induces emotion, it is considered idea for energetic homeowners who like to get things done," say's Loma. How can you decorate with red? "Red demands attention and denotes a lust for life. It symbolises optimism, confidence, and vitality." Loma explains. Red used in living spaces will make a room feel opulent and welcoming. It also creates the perception of warmth, especially during the winter months." Tip" Red can be intense, so introducing patterns can tone it down without losing the vibrancy. According to Lorna McAleer (interiors expert at Style Studio) these are the 5 Best colors to boost your mood and create a happy home environment.
The first color is Yellow, it is the most uplifting. This is an upbeat and friendly color, for happiness and sunlight. This color is reported to release serotonin (neurotransmitter chemical which contributes to a feeling of well-being). This is why scientifically it is Best color to lift spirits. Yellow can help stimulate creativity (either light to bold yellow). Lorna suggests using it in bedrooms and bathrooms. (I like the idea of a sunroom) Note: Yellow can be overpowering, try to have yellow against a gray backdrop. This year Pantone has named Greenery as it's color of year. It is claimed that it's calming connotations will help give you contentment. So according to Lorna: Green is the second color. Lorna says "Green mimics nature in it's softer forms, green is a soothing shade that helps with concentration and relaxation. Bolder greens are sign for "GO" it can have a galvanizing effect". Using green in the home can have a grounding effect that connects you to the outdoors. The Correct green will will make a room feel like it connects seamlessly to outside the window.
